Federal Equal Treatment Commission

Establishment

The Federal Equal Treatment Commission (FETC) has been set up at the Federal Chancellery. It is a federal administrative entity in its own right, which can be appealed to in cases of discrimination under work contracts of federal personnel.

Tasks

The Federal Equal Treatment Commission, whose decisions are promulgated by two Senates, has to deal with all matters pertaining to the equal treatment of women and men, the advancement of women and to equal treatment irrespective of ethnic origin, religion or belief, age or sexual orientation in public employment.

Acting upon requests or on their own initiative, the Senates have to draw up expert opinions on whether or not the equal-treatment precept has been violated. Senate I has the added task of checking, whether the rules regarding the advancement of women are respected.

  • Senate I: Equal treatment of women and men
  • Senate II: Equal treatment irrespective of ethnic origin, religion or belief, age or sexual orientation
