BuPP – Federal Office for the positive assessment of digital games
The Federal office for information on digital games is a service provided by the Austrian Federal Chancellery. The primary goal of the BuPP is to offer parents and educators guidance in the selection of "good games" for children and youngsters.
According to the BuPP, "good digital games" are those which:
- are fun,
- are up-to-date with regards to design and technological features,
- are not objectionable from an educational point of view,
- and offer potential for the player to develop skills that are also relevant outside the game.
Thus the Austrian Federal Chancellery follows the principle of "recommending the good rather than prohibiting the bad". The public can trust these information and recommendations because they are based on firm professional and structural foundations. Furthermore, it is the BuPP's endeavour to provide motivation to face the educational task of an informed and open discussion of the media and media consumption.
The BuPP website lists the recommended games with description, explanatory notes and relevant facts. Background information and tips as well as services on the topic complete the BuPP's range of offers.
