The Austrian Islam Law
The Islam Law came into effect on 31 March 2015. This new edition defines the rights and obligations of the Muslim religious community. The law protects the freedom of Muslims to practice their religion in Austria. Its goal is to promote the idea that you can be both a practicing Muslim and a proud Austrian at the same time.
The law was passed following 3 years of negotiations. A few key points were already defined in the "Dialogforum Islam" in 2012. Both Islamic religious communities were involved in further discussions, and were ultimately in favour of the law.
