European Documentation Centre – EDC

Since March 2022, the Administrative Library has been designated as one of nine European Documentation Centres (EDCs) in Austria. The aim behind the EDC network is to provide the general public with access to European Commission publications and documents, and to help research the terms of EU legislation, specific policy areas and EU institutions.

Visitors to the Administrative Library's reading room will find a selection of leaflets and other information on current issues related to the European Union. The Administrative Library can also source additional material for readers as required.

As most EU documents are now available online, the European Union and its institutions issue very few new hard-copy documents and publications. The staff of the Library is available to assist in finding the documents you are looking for.

Almost all European Union publications are collected in the European Commission Library, and can be consulted via the Commission Library catalogue. The Commission Library, which was founded in 1958, thus provides readers with the tools they need to conduct research using historical holdings, as well as giving them a comprehensive survey of the history of European integration.

The European Year of Skills

On May 9th 2023 the European Year of Skills will be officially starting off. Until May 2024, this will see the launch of targeted measures to support skill development in all member states. The aim is to increase Europe's competitiveness. The most important tool in this context is a highly skilled workforce. In order to successfully master the major challenges of the future – the digital and green transformations, but also the economic recovery – Europe is counting on education and upskilling. This involves working closely with social partners and companies to promote the acquisition of new skills, furthering education and retraining programs as well as investments into research and innovation.
