The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, entitled "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", was adopted at a high-level United Nations (UN) summit which took place from 25 to 27 September 2015. All 193 member states of the United Nations are committed to working towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at national, regional and international level by 2030.

The 2030 Agenda is a milestone in the long-standing international debate on sustainable development. With its universal validity and due to its integrated development approach that gives equal weight to economic, social and ecological aspects while calling for the protection of human rights, the rule of law, good governance, peace and security, the 2030 Agenda is breaking new ground.

All federal ministries were tasked with the coherent implementation of the 2030 Agenda by a decision of the Council of Ministers of 12 January 2016.
