Duties and designations of the Federal Ministries are established on the basis of the Amended Ministerial Law, last updated on 1 May 2024.

On 20 May 2020 Andrea Mayer was sworn in as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport instead of Ulrike Lunacek.

On 11 January 2021 Martin Kocher was sworn in as Federal Minister for Labour, Family and Youth instead of Christine Aschbacher.

On 1 February 2021 Martin Kocher was sworn in as Federal Minister for Labour and Susanne Raab was sworn in as Federal Minister for Women, Family, Youth and Integration.

On 14 April 2021 Wolfgang Mückstein was sworn in as Federal Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.

On 11 October 2021 Alexander Schallenberg was sworn in as Federal Chancellor and Michael Linhart was sworn in as Federal Minister for European and International Affairs.

On 6 December 2021 Karl Nehammer was sworn in as Federal Chancellor.
Magnus Brunner was sworn in as Federal Minister for Finance.
Gerhard Karner was sworn in as Federal Minister for the Interior.
Martin Polaschek was sworn in as Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research.
Alexander Schallenberg was sworn in as Federal Minister for European and International Affairs.
Claudia Plakolm was sworn in as State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery.

On 8 March 2022 Johannes Rauch was sworn in as Federal Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.

On 11 May 2022 Martin Kocher was sworn in as Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs,
Susanne Kraus-Winkler as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs,
Florian Tursky as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance.

On 18 May 2022 Norbert Totschnig was sworn in as Federal Minister for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism.

On 18 July 2022 Martin Kocher was sworn in as Federal Minister for Labour and Economic,
Susanne Kraus-Winkler as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Labour and Economic.

On 18 July 2022 the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs was dissolved. 
The digital/egovernment agendas, previously belonging to the Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs, was taken over by the Federal Ministry of Finance. 
The economic agendas, previously belonging to the Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs, was taken over by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy. 
The tourism agendas, previously belonging to the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism, was taken over by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy.  

On 18 July 2022 the name of the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism has been changed to Federal Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management.

Florian Tursky resigned from his position as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance on 13 March 2024.

On 1 May 2024 the digital/e-government agenda, previously belonging to the Federal Minister of Finance, was taken over by the Federal Chancellery.

On 2 October 2024, after the federal government resigned, all members of the federal government with the exception of State Secretary Andrea Mayer were entrusted with the continuation of the administration by Federal President Alexander van der Bellen.
