Youth Information Literacy
Dealing with information has not become easier due to the existing information overload. However, the critical and competent handling of information has to be learned and is especially important for young people - who are confronted with many questions for the first time in their lives.
Moreover, the variety of possibilities makes the use of information as a basis for competent decision-making and action increasingly demanding. Information competence and, building on it, decision-making and action competence have therefore become key factors for a self-determined and fulfilled life for young people.
The National Network of Austrian Youth Information Centres, funded by the Federal Chancellery, and its members, the youth information centres in the federal provinces, have set themselves the goal of strengthening the information competence of young people.
Especially in our digital world, the critical assessment of information from social media and the web, and the evaluation of online sources are often difficult. The Saferinternet.at initiative, which is also funded by the BKA, offers a range of services to support this.
