The holdings of the Administrative Library

The holdings of the Administrative Library consist of monographs, serialised publications and more than 2,000 periodicals, newspapers, specialist journals and loose-leaf collections relevant to our collection focus. These holdings are available to all library users, and can be accessed during our standard opening hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..

According to § 43 (1) of the Austrian Media Act (Mediengesetz), whenever a printed work is published or otherwise issued in Austria, a copy of it must be offered to the Administrative Library by the media owner. Hence our library provides a comprehensive record of all printed publications in Austria pertaining to our specialist fields. The decision whether or not to add these offered publications to our holdings is made by our experts based on the criteria stipulated in our acquisitions policy, which is focused on:

  • Law, Public administration, Politics, Economics
  • Education, Arts and culture, Scientific and research policy
  • Austriaca
  • The OECD
  • Europe

The physical holdings can be searched using the online catalogue (OPAC), which is constantly being updated and provides access to an extensive range of printed media as well as an increasing range of electronic resources.

In addition to a number of eJournals and eBooks, the library also collects documents that have not been formally published, especially on subjects related to the public administration and associated institutions. Apart from a few exceptions, the full texts of these unpublished documents can be retrieved using our "AB Digital" online catalogue.

The Administrative Library is a depository library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and has unrestricted access to all OECD publications. The OECD iLibrary is the portal for online publications by the OECD. It contains all the publications, studies and statistical data released since 1998, with some records dating back as far as the 1960s.
